ICYMI: 2nd Alarm Ordered after Building Collapse, Gas Leak with Evacuations on Sprague Street

A 150 foot section of a wall of a building on Sprague Street blew out after a roof collapse that also caused a gas leak and took down high tension utility poles Wednesday morning. The situation happened at a building on the Dedham/Readville line.

Just before 11 a.m., a second alarm was ordered for more manpower. Multiple occupied buildings are being evacuated due to gas odors. Just before noon, sewer crews shut down a line that feeds a main that is leaking in the collapse zone.

Officials evacuated 83-101 Sprague Street, as well as the rest of the Boston Dedham Commerce Park complex. Power to the building was shut off.

Officials say a 150 foot section of wall blew out onto Sprague Street with the roof collapsed. As that happened a high tension utility pole also came down.

There is a strong odor of gas and a large water leak in the collapse zone, according to Boston Fire. Crews are working on shutting down the gas to the building.

No injuries have been reported.

The call came in for the collapse just after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

According to Boston Fire, the building is located at 63 Sprague St. Boston Fire also says high tension wires came down with the collapse.

Some of the buildings affected include 83, 87 and 101. Boston Fire says the complex is closed for Wednesday.
