On May 7 at approximately 11:30 p.m., a female employee of the Horse Thieves Tavern, located across the street from the police station at the corner of Washington and High streets, responded to banging she heard on the establishment's window. According to a news report, a female teen asked her, "What did you say, white woman?"

The woman said that she was attacked as she tried to walk back into the tavern. When another employee came out to help her, she was dragged by her hair and kicked in the head.

Police were able to break up what they described as "a chaotic scene." Both women were sent to the hospital.

A cousin of the women, who spoke to Patch on condition of anonymity last week, said they told her that they were kicked in the head until they lost consciousness.

"My cousin thought she was going to die," she said. "She is still in the hospital. Her daughter is afraid to go back to work because she told me the teenagers threatened to come back and kill them."

She added that the manager of Horse Thieves helped break up the incident as police arrived on the scene.

Because juveniles are involved, no further information has been released.
