COVID-19 Vaccine Booster

As of Thursday, October 21st, the CDC recommends Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster vaccines for the following individuals.

  • Moderna: A half dose is recommended for people 65 years and older, and people 18-64 years who are at high risk due to where they work or live. The booster is recommended for people who received their second dose at least 6 months ago.
  • Johnson & Johnson: A dose is recommended for everyone 18 years and older who got the primary dose least 2 months ago.
  • Mixing & matching vaccine type for booster: Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. The CDC’s recommendations allow for mixing and matching vaccine types for the booster shot.

The Board will continue to update residents as more information becomes available about future vaccination clinics.

COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5-11 Years Old

As of Tuesday, October 26th, The FDA Vaccine Advisory Panel recommends the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old. The recommended vaccine is 1/3 of the dose administered to youth 12 years and older and adults. The FDA Commissioner and CDC Vaccine Advisory Group must now weigh in on this recommendation. The CDC plans to meet next week to discuss this matter. The CDC Director must also support the recommendation before the vaccine can be administered to this age group.

Halloween Safety

Halloween is this weekend! The CDC recommends that all adults and children aged 12 and older get a COVID-19 vaccine, but many trick-or-treaters aren’t eligible to get vaccinated yet. To help you enjoy a sweet and safe Halloween, remember to take precautions like wearing a mask and washing your hands, and avoid activities that put you, your family, and your friends at increased risk for COVID-19. The Board of Health recommends the following tips for a safe and healthy Halloween:

  1. Do incorporate a cloth or surgical mask into your costume, and don’t use a costume mask as a substitute for a cloth or surgical mask.
  2. Outdoors is safer than indoors and stay home if you’re feeling sick. Trick-or-treat in small groups outdoors or enjoy other outdoors activities and avoid crowded indoor parties.
  3. Wash your hands before eating candy.
  4. Track local virus transmission rates: take extra precautions where rates are high.
  5. Get vaccinated: Adults and children aged 12 and older should get a COVID-19 vaccine, and everyone should get a flu shot.

Stay safe and be kind!
