COVID-19 Vaccine Booster
As of Thursday, October 21st, the CDC recommends Moderna and Johnson & Johnson booster vaccines for the following individuals.
- Moderna: A half dose is recommended for people 65 years and older, and people 18-64 years who are at high risk due to where they work or live. The booster is recommended for people who received their second dose at least 6 months ago.
- Johnson & Johnson: A dose is recommended for everyone 18 years and older who got the primary dose least 2 months ago.
- Mixing & matching vaccine type for booster: Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. The CDC’s recommendations allow for mixing and matching vaccine types for the booster shot.
The Board will continue to update residents as more information becomes available about future vaccination clinics.
COVID-19 Vaccine for Children 5-11 Years Old
As of Tuesday, October 26th, The FDA Vaccine Advisory Panel recommends the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for children 5-11 years old. The recommended vaccine is 1/3 of the dose administered to youth 12 years and older and adults. The FDA Commissioner and CDC Vaccine Advisory Group must now weigh in on this recommendation. The CDC plans to meet next week to discuss this matter. The CDC Director must also support the recommendation before the vaccine can be administered to this age group.
2. Dedham Small Business Owners Apply for Small Business Grant
Grants of up to $25,0000 are still available for small commercial enterprises in Dedham.
To date, 18 eligible Dedham small businesses have received grants totaling $207,500.
Eligible businesses that have not yet applied can apply now. Those that have received less than $25,000 in grant funding are eligible to re-apply up to the $25,000 cap.
What businesses are eligible?
- for-profit business entities,
- with 5 employees or fewer,
- owned by one or more of the employees.
- located in Dedham. (Home-based businesses may be eligible.)
- Operating prior to October 1, 2019.
Eligibility is limited by household income. All owners of the business must earn annual income equal to or less than 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI) based on family size. If a family’s income was impacted by the pandemic, 2020 tax returns may improve eligibility.

The deadline to apply is December 1, 2021.

3. Veterans Day breakfast - RSVP Today to Attend
On Wednesday, November 10th, the Dedham Council on Aging and Veterans Services Office are teaming up to host a breakfast to celebrate our local veterans. Stop by from 10:00 a.m. to Noon to enjoy great conversation, guest speakers, and music at the USS Jacob Jones VFW Post, located at 84 Eastern Avenue in Dedham, MA.
Call the Ames Senior Center today to RSVP to attend at 781-751-9495.

4. Public Safety Building Updates
What to expect November 1, 2021 (Monday) through November 5, 2021 (Friday):
- The project site remains closed to the public.
- During this week, crews will continue the following work onsite:
- Pour basement mud slabs
- Install stone and Mirafi fabric (a geotextile fabric used to maintain soil separation) in the basement and underground garage area
- Install underground electric and overhead automatic transfer switch conduits
- Masonry work to install the concrete masonry wall along the north, east, and south
- Install rain leader piping to help direct stormwater away from the building
- Backfill up to grade and remove existing jersey barriers
- Crews onsite will install excavation supports along the west using a crane (brought onsite 10/28/21)
- Crews will continue to install drainage manholes and water quality structures on Bryant Street this week. This work may cause traffic delays within the area. More information and updates will be provided prior to the start of work to help facilitate travel in and around this area.
- Expect periodic entrance and exit of large trucks at the project site entrance, located at the intersection of Washington Street and Bryant Street. Please expect minor traffic delays at this intersection.
- No additional traffic impacts or pedestrian impacts are anticipated during this week.
Public Viewing Area:
If you want to stop by to check out the progress, stand by the picnic table outside the north entrance to Town Hall. This spot provides a great view into the project site and is outside of the project boundaries. Worth a visit!
