Sherborn Fire Department Purchases UTV Through Donations

The Sherborn Fire Department recently purchased a Utility Vehicle “UTV” for use in off-road rescues, horse shows, brush fires, lost residents and places where large fire department vehicles have minimal access. This 4-wheel drive utility vehicle is able to transport patients, as well as personnel through the woods of Sherborn. This new UTV will also be used for mutual aid to the  surrounding towns. The UTV was purchased through donations raised from the Sherborn Fire & Rescue Association Ball, the fire department's only fundraiser. The UTV has not yet been put into service as personnel are currently in the process of being trained.

This new UTV will also allow members to conduct searches for people with the Project Lifesaver bracelets. Currently Sherborn has two residents who are part of Project Lifesaver. Project Lifesaver helps provide rapid response to save lives and reduce potential for serious injury for adults and children who wander due to Alzheimer’s, autism, Down syndrome, dementia and other related cognitive conditions.  Project Lifesaver has over 1,200 participating agencies across the U.S., Canada, and Australia, and has performed 2,339 searches in the last 11 years with no serious injuries or fatalities ever reported. Sherborn Fire Dept’s new UTV will greatly assist in these efforts. The UTV carries a medical bag, cervical collars, long board, radios, as well as firefighting equipment.

The Sherborn Fire Department could not have purchased this UTV without the generous donations from the residents of Sherborn. In addition to providing fire and emergency medical services, the fire department gives back to the community by hosting 4th of July activities, end of the summer barbeque and fireworks, Halloween haunted house, Open House during fire prevention week with a medical helicopter, holiday party with Santa photos and the fire department offers a scholarship for a deserving dover/Sherborn High School senior.
