Bezahler Released To Family, Must Undergo Psych. Evaluation

One of the conditions of Bezahler's release is that he cannot carry any knives or guns.

The and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and domestic assault and battery, for allegedly stabbing his 16-year-old brother with a knife, has been released today under the care of his parents.

Jacob Bezahler, of 31 Washington Street in Sherborn, was in Framingham District Court today and was released by a decision from Judge Douglas Stoddart under the condition that he undergo psychological evaluation at Massachusetts General Hospital and McLean Hospital.

Bezahler's attorney, Michele Lyon, argued that Bezahler and his younger brother were horse playing on a couch at their home and the 16-year-old was injured by a knife that was in between the couch cushions.

"Jacob is the one who called 9-1-1. He called the police and said 'We need help,'" Lyon said.

Bezahler's parents and younger brother were also in court today. The victim, who had a 3-inch-deep wound in his chest from the knife and received stitches, stood before the judge and defended his older brother.

"He's always been a loving brother to me," the 16-year-old victim said as he looked at his brother smiling. "This is the only time something like this happened."

Middlesex Assistant District Attorney Joe Galvin contended that the account of the two roughhousing did not add up.

"The story is simply not plausible," Galvin said.

Galvin said that the victim had blood in his mouth and defense wounds that were not indicative of the account that the victim gave.

Judge Stoddart ruled that Bezahler be released under the custody of his parents but still remain under the jurisdiction of the court.

Bezahler is also not allowed to carry any knives or guns.

He is scheduled to be due back in court on Tuesday, April 19.
