D-S Girls Tennis Wins First Match Over Norton
The Lady Raiders won their first match of the season 4-1.
The D-S girls varsity tennis team was undermanned on Friday but they still came through with a big win over Tri-Valley League opponent Norton by a score of 4-1.
“We have a team of 10 we only had seven players due to some other things that people had to do and then we had a couple players who’ve never played on our team before play in starting positions. So we did pretty well,” said Karen Raymond girls varsity tennis head coach.
Several players for D-S also found themselves in different positions that they were in last year.

“Our second singles Sarah Egener had played first doubles last year so she had a good start,” Raymond said. “Olivia Finnegan had played number two last year and she’s now at one. So there were a lot of people new positions.”
And then there players who had never played in an official match before yesterday.

“We actually had Emma Gladstone, she paired up with Olivia Tedesco in first doubles and actually both our second doubles had never played in an official match either, and those were Maggie Gallagher and Alexandra Forte. And they won too,” said Raymond.
Either way that didn't stop the Lady Raiders from coming up with a win over Norton. Their only blemish on the day was Eliza Weintraub taking a third singles loss to Norton's Olivia Christy.
Norton head coach Everett Clark was happy his team's performance overall.
“I was extremely pleased. We were in it for three of those matches and that’s all it takes, you win three and you win the whole thing,” said Clark.
“Olivia in third singles easily controlled the game. She played great. Played fantastic, played smart, let the other girl make her mistakes and Olivia capitalized on it. So that was great,” Clark said.
For Norton's Emily Anderson it was not only her first time playing in an official match. It was her first time playing tennis.
“One of the girls in our first dubs, it was her first time ever playing tennis. Ever,” Clark said. “She’s actually a senior but she’s never played tennis before. So she’s in first dubs and that’s a hard spot to be in for a new kid.”
“Our first dubs one the first set, lost the second, lost the third,” Clark said.
Norton's next match will be away at Hopkinton on Monday at 3:45 p.m.
Dover-Sherborn will play away Medfield on Tuesday at 3:45 p.m.
