Marini is writing an essay on Benjamin Caryl, Dover's first minister, in conjunction with the Dover Church's 250th anniversary year.
Dr. Marini’s said his lecture will address his new areas of research including "Caryl's social networks, theology, political teaching, musical advocacy, and personal spirituality. I think this presentation will offer a new perspective on Caryl and his Dover community that I hope the society will find informative and challenging”.

One of the factors which attracted Dr. Marini to Benjamin Caryl "was the remarkable preservation of 486 of Caryl's more than 1500 original manuscript sermons at the Sawin Museum, the Dedham Historical Society, and the Massachusetts Historical Society. Caryl, it turned out, was the author of one of the largest extant New England sermon collections of the late eighteenth century, and they had never been professionally researched. This was an opportunity no historian of this period should resist, and I could not”.
Those interested in Dover’s history are invited to attend. Refreshments will be served.
