A fire broke out at 255 Western Ave. in Sherborn around 8:30 p.m. earlier tonight, forcing multiple alarms to be sounded and assistance from several area fire departments and leaving the house destroyed. "When we arrived there was heavy fire coming from the first floor and into the second floor on the left and rear of the house," Sherborn Fire Chief Neil McPherson said. "We didn't know upon arrival if anyone was home, but we were able to quickly ascertain that the owners weren't home when the fire broke out." The fire departments from Dover, Holliston, Ashland and Framingham helped the Sherborn Fire Department fight the blaze. McPherson said that they were "lucky because we typically don't have a pressurized hydrant, but we were able to use Holliston's hydrant about a half mile down the road. The owners of the home, an elderly couple, arrived home shortly after fire crews arrived on scene, according to a couple of neighbors who didn't want to give their names. One of the neighbors said that the owners had two dogs, and McPherson said that both dogs had unfortunately succumbed to the fire. "We know [the fire] started in the left rear," McPherson said. "Right now it's undetermined. The State Fire Marshall will come out. Right now he's on his way."
