Dover police chief search, election candidates, and Orbeez.

On Monday the deadline to file election papers in Dover's upcoming elections came and went. Two people stepped up to run for the Cemetery Commissioner position after no nominee was named at the caucus. Candidates are now set for both Dover and Sherborn.

Dover is getting closer to finding their new police chief after having the search narrowed to three candidates by the Dover Police Chief Search Committee. The committee met this week in executive session to talk about which of the three candidates they are going to recommend to the Board of Selectmen.

The Advisory Committee in Sherborn discussed several articles in preparation for the upcoming Town Meeting including citizens' petitions on traffic control at Western Avenue and the process in which the town goes through in order to approve the installation of surveillance cameras throughout Sherborn. One of the more contested articles was article 34, which is a citizens' petition by the ad hoc committee  to invite the Department of Revenue to review the town's operations and finances.

The Dover-Sherborn Regional School Committee met yet again on the topic of their budget for the fiscal year of 2012, on Tuesday. The main issue was Sherborn’s ability, in these tough economic times, to carry their share of fiscal responsibility in the regional school district’s budget. They also discussed how they were going to fund the replacement of the wastewater treatment plant at the high school.

The children's toy Orbeez has been recently banned at some schools in the state. Our parenting columnist Jeannie Capone talks about how Orbeez was banned at her daughter's elementary school.

Our other parenting columnist Heather Kempskie gave us her 10 favorite family-friendly pranks to play on April Fools Day. One of them included loading up her husband's car with a bunch of their daughter's Barbies so he could take them to work. One Barbie was even safely buckled up in the passenger's seat of the car.
