DID YOU KNOW: Monument Dedication
Your weekly historical fact, courtesy of the Easton Historical Society

DID YOU KNOW that the Civil War Monument was dedicated May 30, 1882. Oakes A. Ames, Joseph Barlow, Dr. George B. Cogswell, Lincoln S. Drake, and George A Lackey were chosen at the March 1880 Town Meeting to determine how to commemorate the sacrifices made by Easton residents during the Civil War. The dedication of the five-thousand dollar monument with the names of the forty- seven men who had sacrificed their lives was witnessed by about two thousand people.
