How Much Crime Takes Place in Easton?

Easton's 2012 Annual Town Report, which was released earlier this month, outlines in detail the activity of the Easton Police Department last year.

According to the report, Easton Police responded to 11,831 incidents throughout the course of the year and made 152 arrests.

The majority of the incidents fell into the "miscillanious" category, which included alarms, noise complaints, and general services. Another large chunk of the incidents included traffic violations. According to the report, Easton Police distributed 1,587 traffic citations in 2012.

Only 37 "crimes against persons" occurred. Police did not respond to any murders or rapes. Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon did not occur in 2012 either. However, there were 17 assault and battery incidents, 11 attempted suicides and one suicide. There were also three sexual assaults and five robberies.

Property crimes are much more common in Easton, according to the report. Sixty-nine residences were broken into in 2012 and another 58 motor vehicles were broken into.

According to the report, housebreaks are down 35 percent since 2011.

"This was a result of assistance from our citizens and the hard work of our detectives," Chief of Police Allen Krajcik wrote. "Numerous arrests were made following a significant rise in housebreaks in 2011."
