Oliver Ames Girls' Soccer Standout Kendall Andrew to Play at Providence College

Oliver Ames girls' soccer standout Kendall Andrew is leaving behind plenty of great memories.

Luckily, as she takes the next step in her soccer career, she'll be a short drive away.

"Providence College was a perfect match academically and athletically," she said Wednesday. "It was close to home. I couldn’t see myself going too far from my family."

Andrew signed a Letter of Intent to play soccer at Providence College Wednesday afternoon. She was surrounded by family (her mother and father Ann and Shawn and brother and sister Tim and Meghan), Oliver Ames coach Britt Sellmayer and Athletic Director Bill Matthews.

The Friars play in the Big East and finished last season one win short of traveling to the conference tournament with a record of 8-9-1 (3-7-0 Big East).

Andrew said she is excited to be under the leadership of Jim McGirr, who is heading into his ninth season as Providence's head coach.

She is also anxious to join her new teammates in the summer.

"I love the girls," she said. "I had an overnight and had a lot of fun. My incoming class, I met them too and just love them."

She will be leaving behind a lasting legacy at OA. Largely due to her contributions, the Tigers traveled to the South Sectional Finals each of the last two seasons.

Leaving OA will be bittersweet, she said.

"My highlight at OA was just playing with the same girls through my whole life – playing up through senior year with the same group," she said. "We traveled to Connecticut when we were nine and then playing our last game together as seniors was unreal."

She hopes to see her former teammates in the stands down I-95 in Providence next fall.

"Hopefully," she said. "It’s not too far away."
