2 Firefighters Treated For 'Non-Serious' Injuries After Cape Cod Response
A lingering smoke condition from an overnight fire in a home fireplace prompted the local fire response, officials said.
FALMOUTH, MA — Two firefighters were evaluated for non-serious injury after responding to a reported structure fire over the weekend.
Around 2:10 p.m. on Friday, the Falmouth Fire Rescue Department responded to 5 Old Forge Rd. for the reported fire.
Units were updated while en route of smoke in the basement coming from an unknown source, officials said.

The first arriving engine (Engine 24) reported no signs of a fire, though an initial investigation revealed a slight haze in the structure. Occupants were instructed to evacuate the residence, officials said.
Further investigation revealed a slight smoke condition in the basement from a fire that had extended into a partition in the basement after the occupants reported having a fire in the fireplace the night before, officials said.

An extensive overhaul was needed to gain access to the area of origin.
The area was "wet down," and the residence was turned back over to the homeowner after consultation with a representative from the Building Department.
Two firefighters were transported to Falmouth Hospital and evaluated for non-serious injuries.
