3rd DUI Arrest For Cape Cod Man Who Nearly Hit Cop: Police
Yarmouth police said Joshua Brooks ran a red light in his truck and nearly crashed into a cruiser.

YARMOUTH, MA — A Cape Cod man was arrested over the weekend and charged with his third drunk-driving offense, according to police. Joshua Brooks, 34, of Yarmouth, was arrested Saturday in his hometown at about 4 p.m. Brooks was driving a Dodge Ram on Buck Island Road when he ran a stop sign and came within "inches" of hitting a police cruiser driven by Officer Brian Niezgoda.
"Officer Niezgoda avoided the collision and then activated the cruiser blue lights and siren and pulled the gray Dodge Ram truck over," Yarmouth police said in a statement. "Brooks immediately apologized for almost hitting the Officer and stated he had just come from the nearby Dog Park. Patrol Officer Niezgoda noticed signs of alcohol use and conducted a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests. Brooks failed the tests and was placed under arrest for drunken driving."
Brooks has been convicted of operating under the influence twice, making his current charge a felony, according to police. Brooks was booked and released on $40 bail pending an arraignment Monday in Barnstable District Court.
