Sports have a way of teaching invaluable life lessons — building character, fostering teamwork and strengthening the bonds within a community. In the Falmouth area, these values have shaped some truly remarkable athletes from different eras, whose accomplishments continue to inspire.

Patch has teamed up with T-Mobile to spotlight five standout athletes whose achievements have left a lasting mark on our community. While this list is just a snapshot, there are countless others who have helped shape the rich sports culture in our area.


1. Steve Cishek (Baseball)

Standout pitcher Steve Cishek attended Falmouth High School before playing collegiate baseball at Carson-Newman University. Drafted by the Florida Marlins in the 5th round of the 2007 MLB Draft, Cishek went on to have a 13-season MLB career. He played for nine teams, including the Marlins, Cardinals, Mariners and Cubs, before retiring after the 2022 season with 735 career appearances.

2. Kendall Currence (Basketball)

Falmouth Academy alum Kendall Currence made her mark early by scoring over 2,000 points in high school and earning recognition as one of the area’s top athletes. She continued her basketball career at Temple University, joining Newcastle’s professional basketball team in England after graduation. A member of the Herring Pond Wampanoag Nation, Currence proudly uses her platform to inspire Native youth and promote cultural awareness.


3. Meghan Lino (Curling)

Falmouth-born Paralympian Meghan Lino has represented Team USA in wheelchair curling at the 2014 Sochi and 2018 PyeongChang Paralympics. Lino, who was born with spina bifida, has earned acclaim for her precision in a sport that demands immense skill. Her journey to becoming a top-tier athlete includes over a decade years of curling experience and ongoing advocacy for adaptive sports.

4. Colleen Coyne (Ice Hockey)

East Falmouth’s Colleen Coyne played high school hockey at Tabor Academy and became a dual-sport All-American at the University of New Hampshire. She went on to represent Team USA in five World Championships and continues to influence the sport as an advocate for women’s hockey. Coyne remains active in promoting athletic opportunities for young athletes and serves on boards supporting charitable initiatives.


5. Paul Harney (Golf)

Worcester native Paul Harney was a six-time PGA Tour winner and frequent contender in major championships. During his lifetime, Harney balanced touring with a career as a club professional, later going part-time to prioritize time with his family. He later built the Paul Harney Golf Course, which remains a family-run legacy, in East Falmouth.
