Cape Cod Dog Owner Faces Animal Cruelty Charge After Death
Police said Robert Pina, of Bourne, was charged with animal cruelty after his sick dog was found on the loose in Wareham.

BOURNE, MA — A Cape Cod man was charged with felony animal cruelty Friday after his sick dog was found on the loose in Wareham earlier this year. The dog, a Rottweiler named "Benz," had to be euthanized. The dog was found in "very poor condition" with a softball-size mass in its mouth, according to the Wareham Department of Natural Resources.
The dog was found on Farm To Market Road along the Wareham/Carver line January 29 amid record cold and snow.
"A large mass was observed on the (dog's) jaw that appeared to be infected, bleeding and emanating a profound odor," the Wareham DNR said in a statement. "The Rottweiler also had discharge coming from both eyes and appeared to be underweight and had an infected leg injury."
