Cape Cod Firefighter Making An International Impact

While abroad with the USO in Romania, a local firefighter is having a major impact. It comes as no surprise to his peers on the Cape.

MASHPEE, MA — A local firefighter is making a big impact beyond the walls of his Cape Cod firehouse.

In late May, Mashpee Firefighter Nicholas Trioli was named USO Romania's Volunteer of the Quarter for his work.

"Whether he’s jumping in on day-to-day tasks or stepping up for big events, Nick always shows up with heart," USO branch officials said.

Trioli uses his "craftsmanship and hustle" to keep spirits and energy high while abroad, both literally and figuratively. Recently, Trioli played a major role in building out USO Romania's new coffee bar.

"But it's more than just what he does—it's how he does it," officials said. "Nick’s positive energy, humor, and welcoming vibe make our center feel like home. He inspires others to get involved and helps build a stronger, more connected volunteer crew."

Back home, his fire department isn't surprised by any of this.

"FF N. Trioli is once again showcasing his remarkable abilities," officials with the Mashpee Fire Department said. "His unwavering energy and commitment to helping others truly knows no bounds. Now in his 10th month of deployment, he continues to exemplify the exceptional qualities that make him a standout fireman."

It isn't the first time Trioli has been honored for his military service. In 2024, he was honored at a New England Patriots game for his work as a specialist in the US Army National Guard.
