Cape Cod Man Arrested In Nor'easter Hit-And-Run

Wareham police said Paul Durgin, of Sandwich, struck a firefighter then sped off during this weekend's nor'easter.

WAREHAM, MA — A Cape Cod man was arrested Monday after police said he struck a firefighter with his vehicle then sped off during Friday's nor'easter. Paul Durgin, 28, of Sandwich, was tracked down to a Barnstable motel Monday and taken into custody. He was charged with assault with a vehicle, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a crash.

Police said Durgin hit a 25-year-old Onset firefighter in Wareham on the Cranberry Highway Friday night as the firefighter was helping out during the height of the nor'easter. The firefighter was seriously injured but expected to survive.

Durgin was driving a gray Subaru Forester hatchback and officers tracked the vehicle to the Knights Inn in Barnstable, police said.
