Charges Pending After Multi-Car Crash On Cape Cod

Two people suffered serious injuries during the recent Falmouth crash, police said.

FALMOUTH, MA — Two people suffered serious injuries during a recent crash on Cape Cod, including one person whose injuries are life-threatening, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 30, the Falmouth Police Department responded to a multi-vehicle crash on East Falmouth Highway near the intersection with Seacoast Shores Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered a three-vehicle crash with multiple injuries.

Falmouth Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene and transported three individuals to area hospitals.

One operator was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford with serious injuries. Another operator was airlifted to Rhode Island Hospital with life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition. A juvenile passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Falmouth Hospital, police said.

The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Crash Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Bureau of Criminal Investigations responded to assist with the investigation. As a result, East Falmouth Highway was closed for approximately four hours while first responders worked at the scene.

A preliminary investigation suggests that the at-fault vehicle crossed the median into the opposite travel lane, striking one car and colliding head-on with another.

Later that evening, an additional party came to the Falmouth Police Department to report their involvement in the crash. They indicated that the suspected vehicle initially sideswiped their car, causing minor damage, before crossing into oncoming traffic and colliding with the other two vehicles.

This update brings the total number of vehicles struck to three.

The crash remains under investigation by the CapeLEC Accident Reconstruction Team and criminal charges are pending.
