FALMOUTH, MA — One person is recovering in the hospital after Good Samaratins pulled the driver of a car that crashed late Friday night from the car just before it went up in flames, police said.

Late Friday night a driver crashed into a utility pole on Thomas Landers Road. The crash set the car on fire and sent flames up the pole and knocked out power in the area, including the high school lights at Gifford and Brick Kiln road.

Police closed the area for several hours. Emergency responders took the sole occupant of the car was to the hospital with apparent non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said they believe speed, reckless driving and alcohol were all factors.
