Moped Driver Injured In Cape Cod Crash

Police said the moped driver struck an SUV head-on. He was taken to an area trauma center with serious injuries.

BOURNE, MA — A 17-year-old suffered serious injury when he collided with an SUV head-on while driving a moped, police in Bourne said.

Around 11:35 a.m. on Sunday, officers from the Bourne Police Department responded to the intersection of Shore Road and Bell Road on reports of a motor vehicle crash with injury.

Officers arrived on the scene and "observed that a 2022 Ford Explorer was struck by a moped head on," police said.

The 17-year-old operator of the moped, who is a Bourne resident, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, they added.

The teen was taken to a regional trauma center with what appeared to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The 39-year-old operator of the Explorer, who is also a Bourne resident, was uninjured.

The road was closed in the area during the initial investigation. That road has since reopened, but an investigation is ongoing.
