Multiple Injuries In Multi-Car Crash On Cape Cod

Multiple people were sent to the hospital — including one with a compound fracture in their leg — after the crash in Falmouth.

FALMOUTH, MA — Multiple court summons were issued after a multi-car crash earlier this week that left one person with a compound fracture in their leg.

On Tuesday around 7:15 p.m., the Falmouth Police Department responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on Waquoit Highway, just north of Collins Road.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that three vehicles were involved and multiple occupants sustained injuries. One operator suffered a compound fracture to the lower leg, prompting a responding officer to apply a tourniquet to control the bleeding, police said.

Falmouth Fire and Rescue transported two adult victims to an off-Cape trauma center with serious injuries, while a juvenile occupant was airlifted to Boston Children’s Hospital due to the severity of their injuries, police said.

The roadway was shut down for approximately five hours as emergency personnel responded, investigated the crash and conducted cleanup operations. The Cape Cod Regional Law Enforcement Council’s Accident Reconstruction Team and the Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office Bureau of Criminal Investigations assisted in the investigation.

A preliminary investigation determined that the at-fault driver crossed over the median, sideswiping one vehicle before colliding head-on with another. That driver was cited for negligent operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violation and will be summoned to court.

Additionally, another operator involved was found to be driving with a suspended license and was also cited and will be summoned to court.
