Retired Firefighter Saves Falmouth Man Having Heart Attack

Falmouth fire officials said a man shopping at Eastman's Hardware suffered a heart attack and was saved by a worker.

FALMOUTH, MA — A Falmouth shopper who went into cardiac arrest Monday morning was saved by a retired firefighter, officials said. The incident happened at Eastman's Hardware on Main Street. Falmouth Fire/Rescue officials said a 58-year-old East Falmouth man shopping at the store went into cardiac arrest.

"A store employee, who happens to be a retired firefighter from New Jersey, recognized the situation and began immediate, effective bystander CPR," Falmouth Fire/Rescue said in a statement.

Paramedics arrived within 2 minutes, took over and were able to restore the man's heart rhythm. The man was transported to Cape Cod Hospital and expected to make a full recovery.

"CPR saves lives," Falmouth Fire/Rescue added.

The department said it offers free CPR training courses every month.
