Sagamore Bridge Reopens To Cape Cod Traffic

Sagamore Bridge closures ended this week as repair work nears completion.

BOURNE, MA — Driving to and from Cape Cod became less of a nightmare this week as repair work wraps up. All four lanes of traffic were reopened after crews replaced damaged joints. The project will wrap up Friday, May 4, when construction signs are removed. One lane of traffic in each direction was closed for about a month for the repairs. Five-mile delays at the bridge were common in recent days.

The project is a month ahead of schedule, according to the Army Corps of Engineers, which conducted the repair work. The bridge, opened in 1935, is owned by the federal government. The timing is good news for vacationers as summer approaches.

"We thank the traveling public for their understanding and patience during the execution of these necessary repair activities," the corps' New England division said in a statement.
