SouthCoast Wind Power Purchase Agreements Due March 31
Offshore wind energy is getting even more expensive due to supply chain issues and high interest rates. Current Electric Rates Shocking

On June 8, 2022, offshore wind contractors proposed placing 1200 megawatt cables underground through Falmouth and a six-acre high-voltage direct current converter station on top of the Cape Cod aquifer. To put this in perspective, the Pilgrim nuclear plant on Cape Cod had an output of 680 megawatts.
Almost 200 people attended the June 8th onshore wind meeting held at the Lawrence School Auditorium, with 90 percent against the project.
Mayflower Wind, aka SouthCoast Wind, started Falmouth offshore wind contracts in 2019.

SouthCoast moved their onshore 1200 megawatt wind power plans to Brayton Point.
After uncertainty over power contracts, SouthCoast Wind, a $ 5 billion project in 2023, backed out of nine agreements to sell power to utility companies.
The wind company rebid the contract with power purchase agreements due in August 2024.

Starting in August 2024, the power purchase agreements have been delayed several times. The most recent agreements are with Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Connecticut dropped out of the negotiations.
The latest power purchase due date is Monday, March 31, 2025.
News media sources report: "The developer of the SouthCoast Wind farm is anticipating a potential four-year delay due to uncertainties surrounding federal offshore wind policies."
This week, the Town of Nantucket filed a federal lawsuit against the Department of Interior, Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum over permitting SouthCoast Wind.

"The remaining two counter-parties have not yet completed their contract negotiations and are now targeting the completion of negotiations and execution of contracts on or before March 31, 2025. Accordingly, the Evaluation Team is now targeting the filing of contracts with the Department on or before May 9, 2025."
