SouthCoast Wind, formerly known as Mayflower Wind in October 2025 withdrew its Falmouth connector petitions from the current ISO-NE interconnection process due to federal uncertainty.

The plans included an industrial six-acre high-voltage AC to DC converter plant with battery backup. Questions remain over placing a power plant on the Falmouth aquifer, noise, and light.

The withdrawal halts progress on the specific plan to bring high-voltage transmission cables through Falmouth Heights.

Massachusetts Energy Facility Siting Board EFSB 21-03 DPU 20-56/20-57

Massachusetts' new energy permitting legislation, passed in 2023, requires a single, comprehensive permit within 12 months from the start of the municipal permitting process. General abutter notification rules still apply 100 to 300 feet, and projects must comply with existing state laws, such as the Wetlands Protection Act, and obtain local permits from agencies like the Conservation Commission

In Falmouth, the abutter notification process for different boards has specific timing requirements relative to the hearing date.

Mayflower Wind, known as SouthCoast Wind, canceled its public comment period on March 22, 2022.
