Report: David Ortiz to Retire After 2016 Season

The nine-time MLB All-Star has helped the Boston Red Sox win three World Series titles.

David Ortiz’s time in a Boston Red Sox uniform is nearing an end.

The iconic slugger will call it a career following the upcoming 2016 season, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Ortiz, a nine-time MLB All-Star, turns 40 years old on Wednesday, Nov. 18.

Since joining the Red Sox in 2003 as a designated hitter, Ortiz has clubbed 445 home runs. He became the 27th player in league history to hit 500 career home runs this past season.

Ortiz helped power the Red Sox to three World Series championships in 2004, 2007, and 2013.
