Burrell School Gets $14.6 Million For Renovation Project

The funds will be used to fund a good portion of the $34.7 million project.

FOXBOROUGH, MA — The Burrell Elementary School renovation will move forward, with assistance from the state.

The Massachusetts School Building Authority recently announced that they will contribute over $14.6 million towards the $34.7 million project. That figure could increase to $15.3 million if the MSBA determines that any of the owner's and/or construction contingency expenditures are eligible for reimbursement, according to the school building committee.

"Upon completion, this project will provide a new 21st century learning environment for students in Foxborough," Treasurer Deborah Goldberg, the chair of the MSBA, said in a release. "Our goal is to create the best space to deliver the District’s educational commitments and goals."

The next hurdle for the project to clear will come at next month's Special Town Meeting. Voters will be asked to approve the funding.

The renovation will be the first significant work on the school since it was built in 1967. When the work is done, the school will have a new full gym that can be an assembly space, breakout space for small rooms, and a new media center, art, and music rooms.
