2 Framingham Schools Receive Grant From MutualOne Foundation

The lunchtime reading program in the two schools serves 95 students in grades 1-4, who are struggling with literacy.

The MutualOne Charitable Foundation awarded $2,500 to support the Read to a Child program at the Brophy and Wilson elementary schools in Framingham.

Adult volunteer mentors share one-on-one time with the students, instilling in them a love of reading and a love of learning.

“The Foundation award will allow Read to a Child to provide updated books and materials for the growing lunchtime reading program,” said Steven M. Sousa, executive vice president and chief operating officer of MutualOne Bank and a MutualOne Charitable Foundation trustee

“We are pleased to help increase the success of these children in reading, and in life, through this program,” said Souza.

The Read to a Child grant was among awards totaling more than $62,250 in the Foundation’s most recent round of funding.

Since it was established in 1998, the MutualOne Charitable Foundation has donated over $3 million to charitable, educational, and civic initiatives that improve and enhance the quality of life in Framingham, Natick, and surrounding communities.
