23 Students Honored For Learning Milestones From SMOC

Celebration of Learning acknowledges the learning milestones of those students who will be continuing their educational proficiency.

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Submitted by SMOC: Twenty-three students are honored for achieving various learning milestones, including seven who have successfully passed their High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), at the 2018 Celebration of Learning on Friday, June 22, at 2 p.m. at the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) Café, 7 Bishop St.

In the past few years the educational programs at the Joan Brack Learning Center at SMOC have evolved to better meet the needs of incoming students, the changing requirements and the increased rigor of the high school equivalency exam, and an overwhelming demand for English as a Second Language (ESL) classes at all levels. To meet the needs of incoming students and changes to the HiSET(formerly GED), instruction is now offered in four levels: from elementary to high school preparation for the HiSET exam.

Instead of a traditional graduation ceremony recognizing only those who have completed a full year in the ESL program or have passed the HiSET exam, the Celebration of Learning acknowledges the learning milestones of those students who will be continuing their educational and language proficiency goals.
