5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: August 10

Today is National S'mores Day. Tonight, the Framingham Library is holding a Chopped-style Cupcake Competition for teens.

Framingham has more than 30 Girl Scouts Troops and more than 400 girls in grades K-12 registered as Girl Scouts. Registration for the 2015-2016 year will begin next month.

2. Tonight, teens in middle and high school are invited to compete in a cupcake design competition in the style of the TV show Chopped at the main Framingham Library. The event, which was rescheduled from last week, starts at 6:30 p.m.

3. The Performing Arts Center of MetroWest will stage the musical Avenue Q, the musical this weekend. Featuring a cast of students from high school through college from MetroWest, shows are Friday night, August 14 and Saturday night, August 15 at 7:30. Tony-winning musical Avenue Q is the hilarious and heartfelt story of a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York with big dreams and little money. 4. The Town Moderator has appointed a former school Committee Chair to the 9-member Framingham Finance Committee along with re-appointing one member and appointing a former member back to the committee.

5. Congresswoman Katherine Clark is holding an essay contest in which the winner can hear the Pope speak before a joint session of Congress. The deadline to enter is August 20. Click here for more details.
