UPDATED: 5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: August 19

Sorry, to say but one week from today, Framingham Public School students in grades 1-12 return to class, on Wednesday, August 26.

1. Sorry, to say but one week from today, Framingham Public School students in grades 1-12 return to class, on Wednesday, August 26. This has to be the shortest summer ever. At least they students (and parents) can look forward to a long Labor Day weekend on Sept 5-6-7.

2. Today at 2 p.m., Fuller Middle School is holding an ice cream social for sixth grade students.

3. Framingham High seniors will conduct tours today at the high school Freshman (Class of 2019) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tours will also take place on Thursday. School starts for the Class of 2019 on Tuesday, Aug. 25. It is a half day, then ends at 10:45 a.m.

4. The main Framingham Library will host a book BINGO today for students, who will be elementary school later this month, from 3-4 p.m.

5. There is a meet and greet tonight at 7 at Hemenway Elementary School. Parents and students can meet the new interim principal and interim vice principal.

BONUS: Today is World Humanitarian Day. The day is to recognize those who face danger and adversity in order to help others. The day was designated by the U.N. General Assembly to coincide with the anniversary of the 2003 bombing of the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq.

World Humanitarian Day is also an opportunity to celebrate the spirit that inspires humanitarian work around the globe. This year’s theme is Inspiring The World’s Humanity.
