5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: August 26

Framingham Department of Public Works will host a blood drive today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Department of Public Work's Operation Center.

1. Today is the first day of school for Framingham Public School students in grades 1-12. Please drive slower this morning, and be on the alert for students walking and at bus stops.

And please be extra careful in the afternoon. AAA Northeast says afternoon hours are particularly dangerous for walking children – over the last decade, nearly one-third of child pedestrian fatalities occurred between 3 and 7 p.m.

2. Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. The Town of Framingham Department of Public Works will host a blood drive today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Department of Public Work’s Operation Center at 100 Western Avenue.

3. The Framingham Standing Committee of Zoning and Planning is scheduled to meet tonight at in the Memorial Building.

4. The main Framingham Library will host stories and songs today from 1;15 to 2 p.m. The musical event is perfect for children ages 2-5.

5. The following Selectmen-appointed committees have openings:

  • Agricultural Advisory Commission
  • Cultural Council
  • Cushing Memorial Chapel Advisory Committee
  • Fair Housing Committee
  • Historic District Commission
  • Human Relations Commission

Any Framingham resident interested in serving in a position can obtain an application:

1) Call the Selectmen’s office at 508-532-5400

2) Email selectmen@FraminghamMA.gov

3) Download an application from the Selectmen’s page on the Town’s website at www.FraminghamMA.gov, or

4) Forward a letter of interest and resume to: Board of Selectmen, 150 Concord St., Framingham, MA 01702.

The next round of appointments will be made on Wed., September 16. Deadline to apply is September 9.
