5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: September 9

First day of class for Marian High, Framingham Public early release due to heat, and meeting to create a dog park tonight at library.

1. Framingham Public School students will have an early release today. Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott made the decision Tuesday afternoon, due to the forecast of extreme heat today.

Several Framingham Public school classrooms registered above 90 degrees and some above 100 on Tuesday. No lunches will be served. Click here for more details.

2. Today is the first official day of the 2015-16 school year for Marian High students. They will have a full-day of class said the school’s principal, despite the weather forecast.

Students at Saint Bridget School and the Christa McAuliffe Charter School in Framingham will also have a full day of school today.

3. Despite the early release, after-school activities and night time activities can take place. Thus, three schools will be holding their first PTO meetings of the year tonight.

  • King Elementary will hold its meeting at 7 in the school’s media center.
  • McCarthy Elementary will hold its meeting at 7 in the school’s cafeteria.
  • Dunning Elementary will hold its meeting at 7.

4. FLYERS in action:

Today is the start of the fall sports season for many Framingham High sports teams.

  • The girls cross-country team will host Brookline and Braintree at home at 3:45 p.m. at Framingham High.
  • The boys cross-country team will host a dual meet at 4 p.m. at Framingham High
  • Boys soccer will host Weymouth High at 3:45 p.m. at Framingham High
  • Girls soccer will travel to Weymouth for a 3:45 p.m. game
  • Girls volleyball will travel to Weymouth for a 3:45 p.m. match
  • Girls swim & dive team will travel to Dedham for its season opener at 4 p.m.
  • Girls field hockey has an away game against Weymouth at 3:45 p.m.

MUSTANGS in action:

Marian High also opens its fall sports season today.

  • Golf team has a match against Lowell Catholic on the road
  • Cross Country team has a home meet at 3:30 p.m.
