The Mustangs began the game with possession of the ball, but this quickly changed when Christian Maldonado had a skillful interception. Jordan Ortiz helped the Flyers move down the field on the ground and Jack Beverley also had a great completion to Michael Hildreth. Warren Perez and Tramiris Anthony contributed to stingy Framingham defensive play and the Flyers also blocked a Newton punt. Both defenses contained their opponent’s offense for the majority of the first half, but the Flyers started to put together a good drive early in the second quarter. Sam Stubbs sped past Newton’s defense multiple times and finished this series of plays with a short touchdown run. After Stubbs converted a 2 point kick, the Flyers led 8-0. The shutout didn’t last for long, though, as the Tiger running back raced for a 71 yard touchdown on Newton’s next play. Since the Mustangs failed to convert their extra point, Framingham still led 8-6.

The excitement continued near the end of the second half when Stubbs broke loose and had a 44-yard run that set up a 21-yard touchdown pass from Beverley to Andrew Keane. Stubbs’ 2-point kick made the score 16-6. It looked like this would be the score at halftime until the Newton quarterback threw a touchdown pass with 0 seconds remaining, cutting down the Framingham lead to 16-14.

Jordan Ortiz led the Flyer rushing attack on their first drive in the third quarter and scored on a 3 yard run. The Mustangs were eager to strike back and make Framingham’s 24-14 lead shorter, but couldn’t do so because Framingham got the ball back on an onside kick. Sam Stubbs quickly made good use of the onside kick with a 32- yard touchdown run. Framingham cornerbacks Zach Blumer and Tramiris Anthony were shutting down Newton’s receivers during most of the 2nd half, but Newton had a long 70-yard rushing touchdown near the beginning of the 4th quarter. Later, Jack Beverley ran in a touchdown from the 3 yard line to double Newton’s score (40-20).
Sam Stubbs was 5 for 5 on 2 point kicks after touchdowns, and the Flyers won 40-20 in a blowout.

Next week, Framingham has a bye that they can use for some well-deserved rest.
