DA: Homeless Man Beat Another Into Critical Condition

The judge set bail at $100,000 for the man arrested in the Framingham attack.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan announced that Thomas Benjamin, 48, was arraigned in Framingham District Court Friday, Aug. 14 on a charge of assault and battery causing serious bodily injury.

Judge Douglas Stoddart set bail at $100,000 cash and ordered the defendant to stay away from, and avoid contact with, the victim.

The next court hearing for Benjamin is scheduled for Monday, Sept. 14.

At approximately 7 p.m., on Thursday, August 13, Framingham Police responded to a report of an injured man located in the area of the Downtown Center Common, 60 Concord St.

The victim, also described as homeless, was transported to MetroWest Medical Center in Framingham.

The victim displayed major facial trauma and was suffering from subarachnoid hemorrhage.

The victim was transported to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he underwent surgery.

He is listed in critical condition with life-threatening brain injuries.

The Framingham Police Department and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office are investigating this incident.

This charge is an allegation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
