Family Recycling Business Raises $150K for MA Organizations
Green Day Recycling helps communities declutter responsibly while supporting local programs through e-waste events.

What began as a simple Boy Scout project in Sutton has grown into a statewide effort that has raised over $150,000 for schools, churches, and nonprofits across Massachusetts.
Green Day Recycling, founded by father-son duo Jim and Brian Wood, started with a simple mission: help residents safely dispose of electronics while supporting local causes. Nearly 15 years ago, the Woods held their very first recycling event at their local church in Sutton, and it was a bigger success than expected, revealing a strong community demand for responsible e-waste disposal.
“People didn’t know where to take their old TVs, computers, or printers,” said Brian Wood, now Director of Operations at Green Day Recycling. “We realized we could provide a solution while giving back to the organizations that host the events.”

Since then, Green Day Recycling has partnered with churches, schools, local governments, and nonprofit organizations across nearly every corner of the state. At each event, residents are invited to responsibly dispose of their unwanted electronics — from TVs and computers to printers and cell phones. The best part? Proceeds from each event go directly to the host organization.
Each event serves a dual purpose: residents get a reliable, eco-friendly way to recycle old devices, and host organizations earn money to fund programs, repairs, and community projects. Green Day Recycling doesn’t stop at electronics. The organization has helped provide bikes to families in need both in Massachusetts and overseas in Ghana, further extending its reach and impact.

“We love what we do,” said Wood. “It’s hands-on, it’s local, and it’s good for the environment and the community.”
Green Day Recycling’s spring and summer events are now underway, with events planned in communities across Massachusetts. Residents are encouraged to bring in their unwanted electronics and support their local host organization.
