Flyers Defeat Boston Latin To Remain Undefeated
The Framingham high swimming and diving team is now 6-0 on the season.
Strong relays and great distance swims were the keys to the Framingham Flyers victory over Boston Latin on Thursday afternoon.
The Framingham High swimming and diving team defeated the Boston Latin Wolfpack, to go 6-0 on the season.
“I’m very happy with our performances,” said Head Coach Mike Foley. ”Speed will come along, but we are getting into shape.”

Foley said the team has a tough stretch coming up on the schedule.
Next up, for the Flyers is a home meet against Needham on Friday, Oct 2, followed by away meets against Wellesley on Oct. 6 and Newton North on Oct. 9.

Yesterday, the relay team of senior Devon Tice, senior Emily Osborne, senior Haley McCurdy, and junior Isabella Tersoni won both the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle events.
In the medley relay, the Flyers finished second with swimmers Aja Matzker, Osborne, sophomore Kara McCurdy and Tersoni.
In the individual medley event, Kara McCurdy won the race, with a time of 2:26.10. Matzker finished third for the Flyers.
Sophomore Julie Long won the 500-yard freestyle event in a time of 5:49.64 for Framingham. Haley McCurdy finished second and senior Natalie Burkett finished fourth for the Flyers.
“We had great distance swims today,” said Foley.
Sophomore Halia Bower won the diving event, with Framingham senior Elena Jacob finishing second and sophomore Catherine Turner capturing third place.
The Flyers finished 2-3-4 behind Kate Della Barba in the 100-yard butterfly event. Senior Anna Parra took second, followed by juniors Shelby Weeks and Catherine Castro.
Matzker had the fastest time of the meet in the 100-yard backstroke event at 1:10.50. Sophomore Olivia Nelson and junior Mary Zschau also had solid backstroke swims.
Framingham High junior Alessandro Miranda and sophomore Lizzie Tallino has the second and third fastest times in the breaststroke event.
Framingham’s Long won the 200-yard freestyle event with a time of 2:13.03.
Kara McCurdy and Tice finished 1-2 in the 100-yard freestyle. McCurdy’s time of 58.94 qualifies her for the state meet.
In the spring event, Boston Latin’s Gate Yuan won the 50 freestyle in 26.88 seconds, just short of a state-qualifying time of 26.85. Tersoni was the fastest swimmer in the that event for the Flyers, finishing second. Tice took third place.
