Framingham Public Library Unveils New Solar Roof Installation Sunday
The 81.6 kilowatt system is the first of the city's municipal solar photovoltaic projects
FRAMINGHAM, MA -- Residents of all ages will have an opportunity to learn about solar technology during the Framingham Public Library’s celebration of the new rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installation at the Christa McAuliffe Branch Library on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.
The public is invited to the celebration, which will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, kids crafts and Legos, and an introductory presentation explaining how solar PV systems generate clean energy, led by Solect Energy and Enel X.
“The Framingham Public Library is so proud to represent the City in the initiative to incorporate clean, efficient energy and to join the growing ranks of green libraries across the country,” said FPL Director Lena Kilburn. “We hope the community will join us in this celebration.”

The first of the city’s municipal solar PV projects, the 81.6 kilowatt solar PV system installed at the McAuliffe Branch will produce approximately half of the building’s annual electricity consumption.
In addition, the Framingham Public Schools is currently developing solar PV systems for the new Fuller Middle School and Brophy Elementary School.

The June 5 event is sponsored by the City of Framingham, the Framingham Public Library (FPL), and the Framingham Sustainability Committee.
