Framingham State Football Takes Ice Bucket Challenge To Support Former Player Diagnosed With ALS

Framingham State University recently learned that one of its alumni and former football players Kevin Gosnell was diagnosed with ALS.
Gosnell, a member of the Class of 1991, has been a strong supporter of the football team since he graduated
Tuesday night, Aug. 18 the entire football team along with its coaching staff took the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to support Gosnell.

Framingham State Football Head Coach Tom Kelley challenged the rest of the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference to take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge.
in March 2012, former Boston College athlete Pete Frates was diagnosed with ALS.

In 2013, a friend of Frates, Pat Quinn was diagnosed with ALS.
In 2014, the two of them are credited with starting the ice bucket challenge, in which individuals either pledged to donate money to find a cure for ALS or dump a bucket of ice water on them.
Hundreds of thousands took the challenge from everyday citizens, to sports stars to celebrities.
President Barack Obama was challenged by Ethel Kennedy but declined to take the challenge opting instead to donate $100.
This month, the ALS Association relaunched the Ice Bucket Challenge campaign stating “this August, and every August, until there’s a cure (for ALS).”
It has been estimated that more than $200 million has been raised for ALS research to find a cure since the challenge began last year.
