Framingham Swimmer Struck By Boat

Marine patrol received a 9-1-1 call about the swimmer, 67, struck on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire.

A Framingham swimmer was struck by a power boat on Lake Winnipesaukee over the weekend.

On Sunday, August 23, around 8 a.m., New Hampshire State Police Marine Patrol received a 9-1-1 caller reporting a swimmer, who had been struck by a powerboat on Lake Winnipesaukee in the area between Long Island and Dow Island in the town of Moultonborough.

Upon initial investigation, it is believed an 18-foot outboard fishing boat with two adult males on board struck an adult male swimmer who was accompanied by a kayaker, according to Marine Patrol.

Both occupants of the powerboat stated that they saw the kayaker but did not see the swimmer in the water.

The victim was taken onto the fishing boat and was brought to shore where he was transported to Lakes Region General Hospital in Laconia, N.H., for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The injured swimmer was identified Monday as Edward Owens, 67, of Framingham.

The operator of the powerboat was identified as Richard Dewling, 48, of Acton, Maine.

The incident remains under investigation.
