Lancers Defeat Rams 14-10

The Worcester State University women’s lacrosse team closed the first half with four straight goals to take the lead for good as they defeated the Framingham State University Rams 14-10 Saturday afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Maple Street Field in Framingham
With the win, the Lancers improve to 9-3 on the year and are now 2-1 in the MASCAC, while the Rams fall to 7-3 overall and are also 2-1 in the conference.
Junior Stephanie Leonard paced the Rams offensively with four goals and two assists, while senior Zoe Reilly chipped in with three goals and an assist.

The Lancers were led by sophomore Alaina Martin, who netted a game-best five goals and a helper, while junior Kalia Chase added three goals and an assist.
Worcester State took a 1-0 lead just under 30 seconds into the game, but the Rams rattled off three straight markers including marker from freshman Morghan Cassella to take a 3-1 lead with just under 25 minutes remaining.

Worcester State tied the game on an unassisted marker from senior Angela Grassetti and then the two teams traded goals until the seven minute mark when Chase tallied goals at 7:19 to tie the game and 5:34 to put the Lancers on top for good.
The Rams pulled within two (12-10) late in the second half on Leonard’s final goal of the game, but the Lancers tacked on a pair of insurance markers to secure the victory.
The Lancers outshot the Rams 29-22 in the game and each team collected 17 ground balls.
Sophomore Lea Robichaud picked up the victory in net for the visitors making nine stops, while junior Alysha Cericola suffered the loss despite making nine saves.
The Rams are back in action Tuesday evening when they travel to Fitchburg State at 7 p.m.
