Magnolia, The 'Abandoned' Framingham Piglet, Moves To Dedham Shelter

The piglet is only two-weeks-old, the shelter estimates, so she will need special care before being put up for adoption.

Given her age, Magnolia will need neonatal care, meaning she won't be made available for adoption for at least a month. The Animal Rescue League of Boston is accepting donations for her care now.

DEDHAM, MA — A young piglet who was picked up by a good samaritan in Framingham captured the hearts of the MetroWest, now it has a new — temporary — home.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston announced that the two-week-old piglet, who they've named Magnolia, is now in the shelter's care in Dedham.

Framingham doesn't have the capacity for livestock care, prompting the transfer.

Magnolia's age is an estimate, but the piglet weighs just six pounds, is in overall good health, is friendly, and "has settled in quickly to her new environment at ARL," officials said.

Framingham police shared last week that a piglet was "abandoned by its owner" in Framingham.

It was picked up by animal control after a "good samaritan" called for assistance, but Framingham doesn't have the proper facilities for longterm livestock care, police said.
