National Ice Cream Day: Where To Get The Scoop In Framingham Area

From chocolate to butter pecan to cookies and cream, celebrate National Ice Cream Day on Sunday with your favorite flavor.

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Grab a friend and find a nice cool spot in the shade: National Ice Cream Day is Sunday, giving us the perfect opportunity to enjoy a summer favorite at some of the MetroWest area's ice cream shops.

A local favorite is Mad Willie's in Framingham Centre at 963 Worcester Rd. It has been around since 2006. The ice cream and flavorings are made with ingredients from Richardson's Farm in Middleton.

Flavors include the tempting death by chocolate, green monster and Maine black bear, among others. It also serves frappes, ice cream sodas, smoothies and Italian ice.

In nearby Natick, Park Street Ice Cream Shoppe at 14 Park St. Founded in 1980, it has been family owned for 40 years, according to the website.

The establishment offers 16 standard flavors including traditional standards like vanilla, chocolate and coffee. Specialty flavors that vary by day range from black raspberry Oreo to chocolate pecan truffle to to vanilla lemon merengue.

The United States celebrated the first National Ice Cream Day in 1984. We celebrate the sweet treat thanks to former President Ronald Reagan, who wanted to commemorate the treat enjoyed by most Americans.

Most of us can agree: ice cream is a deliciously sweet delicacy.

A recent ranking by TOP Data in honor of National Ice Cream Day determined the top 5 flavors in every state based on online shopping data.

The top flavor in Massachusetts is cherry, according to the survey. Coming in second place was chocolate, followed by coffee and cookie dough. Rocky road rounded out the top five.
