New Mexican Restaurant Opens Today in Framingham

The restaurant will offer grand opening specials today, as well as a 2 taco and soda special on Marathon Monday for $5.

Today is the grand opening of Mi Cocina Restaurant.

Owner Carmen Solares said the downtown Framingham restaurant will specialize in “authentic Mexican food.”

It is the second business downtown for her family. Her mother Olga Bran opened Neca’s Bakery four years ago downtown in April.

“April is a good month for us,” she said.

The food here will remind you of eating in someone’s home, said Solares.

Selectmen approved the restaurant’s license on Tuesday night, and Solares began a soft opening on Wednesday.

Today, April 17 is the official grand opening.

The menu has everything you would expect in a Mexican restaurant including burritos, tacos, pupusas, quesadillas, fajitas, carne asada, etc. The restaurant serves soups and appetizers, too. Desserts include flan, tres leche, and sopapilla.

Grand opening specials - today only - include Mexican Steak, Mexican Shrimp and a Chimichanga (chicken or beef) - $8.99 each.

The restaurant, which can seat 50 people, is cash only this week. Next week, customers can pay cash, debit, and credit card.

For Marathon Monday, the restaurant that is within walking distance of the Route 135/126 intersection downtown, will have a 2 taco and soda special for $5.

Tacos are normally $2.25 for pork, chicken, chorizo, steak and $3 for tripe, fish or shrimp. The tacos are served on soft tortillas. They are filled with meat and veggies and full of flavor.

The pupusas, which are a thick handmade corn tortilla stuffed with queso and your choice of meats, plus refried beans, are $1.75 each.

Burritos, available in six flavors, including chicken, steak, pork, fish, and beef are priced at $7.99. They are stuffed with meat and veggies and flavored with sour cream and spices.

The restaurant serves breakfast all day, too. On the breakfast menu is Huevos Rancheros at $7.99. Eggs are served with re-fried beans and sweet plantains, said Cesar Monzon.

Monzon said one of his favorite items on the menu is the taco salad, which comes in an edible bowl.

There is a children’s menu, $4.99, which includes non-Mexican menu items like chicken fingers and cheeseburger.

Located at 18 Irving Street, the restaurant will be open 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. It does not have a liquor license and only serves sodas, bottled waters, and hot drinks.
