Registration Is Open For Framingham High School Summer Institute

FRAMINGHAM, MA - Registration currently is open for the Framingham High School Summer Institute educational program beginning on July 5.

The Summer Institute, which runs from July 5-29, offers both enrichment and recovery classes for students seeking to advance their learning over the summer break, according to Mike Tarlin, the program's administrator. This will be the first time the program is being held in person since the pandemic began.

There will be morning and midday sessions, and times vary depending upon the course. Attendence is mandatory, and there will be no excused absences.

Original credit classes need a minimum of 10 participants in order to be held. Original credit classes are condensed versions of electives that are traditionally offered during the school year. They meet Monday through Friday for four weeks. Students who pass an original credit class will be granted a 0.5 credit towards the graduation requirements of that class's discipline. The cost for the original credit classes is $245, according to the program website. Although these classes have a fee, any interested student is encouraged to apply because financial aid is available. Only Framingham residents with a good attendance record in the Framingham Public Schools will be considered for financial aid.

Course offerings include creative writing, health, lifetime activities, and study skills. A check or money order should be made out to City of Framingham and given directly to Tarlin.

There is a variety of subjects for credit recovery classes, which also need 10 participants in order to be held. Credit recovery classes allow a student to receive make-up credit for a course that was completed during the school year where the student received a failing grade. They are free to FHS students and $195 for non-FHS students. Offerings include English, science courses, Algebra I and II, and two levels of American and world history.
