FRAMINGHAM, MA — A winter storm will last through much of the day Friday, dropping up to a foot of snow that could turn cement-like due to a mix of sleet and freezing rain that will hit areas along and south of the Mass Pike.

Ahead of the storm, Framingham declared a 24-hour snow emergency parking ban beginning at 6 a.m. Friday. The city will also delay trash pickup by one day due to the storm.

The snow will move into the region around 2 a.m. Friday, but the heaviest bands of snow will hit between 4 and 8 a.m. — meaning a potentially messy and dangerous morning commute. The snow will continue through the morning until around noon, according to the National Weather Service.

The entire area between Worcester, Milford, Framingham and Lowell could see between 7 and 12 inches fall by the end of the day. The entire state is under a winter storm warning until midnight on Friday.

The tail end of the storm may cause the biggest headaches. Forecasts show sleet and freezing rain mixed with snow through the afternoon hours, which will make cleanup more difficult.

"The snow may change to a period of sleet near and especially south of the Massachusetts Turnpike by mid-Friday morning. Any mixed precipitation should change back to snow Friday afternoon and early evening before ending," the winter storm warning said.

The rest of the weekend will be sunny, but high temperatures will stay the 30s through Monday.
