Snow In Framingham: Closings And Stuff You Need To Know

FRAMINGHAM, MA—Here we go. Make sure you've got a generator, fuel in your snowblower, plenty of pancake mix and all the pieces to your Scrabble board. Now that we're freezing, let's add some major snow, too. It looks like Framingham and the rest of the area is in for a monster storm starting early on Thursday and continuing throughout the day.

Much of Massachusetts is expected to get up to a foot of snow during a daylong deluge of snow. A snowfall rate of 2-3 inches per hour beginning around dawn Thursday morning will make the commute a messy one. Then, by the evening commute much of the state is expected to be buried under 8-12 inches of snow."

A weather emergency parking ban goes into effect in Framingham at 8 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 4, and remains in effect until 8 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5.

Closings, Cancelations and Delays:

• Framingham public schools closed Thursday and Friday
• Framingham State University all classes canceled on Thursday
• All Framingham municipal buildings are closed on Thursday and Friday, including the Memorial Building, Framingham Public Libraries, Loring Arena, the Callahan Center and the Parks and Recreation facilities. All non-essential employees shall remain home and are not to report to work on Thursday, Jan. 4.
• Trash and recycling collection has been on a holiday schedule this week, but due to inclement weather, the city is delaying collection by an additional day. The Recycling Drop-off Center at 255 Mount Wayte Ave., typically open Thursday through Sunday, is closed the remainder of the week and will reopen Thursday, Jan. 11.
• ACCEPT Educational Collaborative morning, afternoon and evening classes canceled on Thursday

The MBTA operates regular weekday service on the Red, Orange, Blue, and Green Lines on Thursday. The Mattapan Trolley Line will be replaced with dedicated shuttle buses, servicing all stations. As delays and other service changes may occur, customers are urged to connect with the MBTA by visiting the MBTA website, signing up for and checking T-Alerts, downloading the Transit app, and following the T on Twitter @MBTA as well as the commuter rail at @MBTA_CR.

Regular bus service will operate, though delays may occur and bus routes that have “Snow Routes” will operate on their designated Snow Route. To find a list of buses with Snow Routes, customers are urged to visit www.mbta.com/winter where these routes are listed.

The MBTA Commuter Rail will operate a “Reduced Schedule” in which some scheduled trains will not operate. Online schedules and schedules available within the commuter rail app will be updated to only show trains that operate during a Reduced Schedule. Trains shaded in yellow on printed schedules will not operate. Express trains may make local stops as necessary.

Ferry services will not operate on Thursday, Jan. 4.

There is no fixed route or paratransit service on Thursday, Jan. 4, according to the MWRTA. Anticipate delayed or limited service on Friday, Jan. 5. Find the fixed routes here.

"Winter storms can cause power outages that last for days," writes the federal government on its weather "ready" site. "They can make roads and walkways extremely dangerous or impassable and close or limit critical community services such as public transportation, child care, health programs and schools. Injuries and deaths may occur from exposure, dangerous road conditions, and carbon monoxide poisoning and other conditions."
