Framingham Fire Displaces 8 (patch.com) — Eight residents were forced from their Arlington Street home after a Friday morning fire in Framingham that also killed two cats and injured three firefighters. Crews rescued three dogs and knocked down the blaze in about an hour, and the Framingham Fire Department and Fire Prevention Division are still investigating the cause.
   

2. Central Mass. state universities receive share of $13M for at-risk students (wbjournal.com) — Framingham State University is receiving $1.32 million in new state SUCCESS grant funding to expand tutoring and wraparound support for at-risk students, including help with transportation, child care, food, and mental health. The money is part of a $13 million statewide package and will directly bolster services that help Framingham students stay enrolled and graduate.

MIAA Power rankings released for 2026 in basketball and ice hockey (metrowestdailynews.com) — Framingham high school teams appear throughout the MIAA’s first 2026 power rankings in basketball and ice hockey, giving locals an early look at where they stand statewide. While some squads are off to tough starts, others are hovering around mid-pack, setting up an important stretch of winter games before postseason berths are decided.
   

4. Girl, 4, Hospitalized with Rare Brain Condition Linked to the Flu: 'It Came Out of Nowhere,' Says Mom (people.com) — A 4-year-old Massachusetts girl is recovering from a rare, flu-linked brain condition after an outbreak hit her daycare in Framingham, where up to 20 flu cases were reported. Her family faces major medical costs, but doctors expect a full recovery within months, and her mother credits quick care and vaccination with saving her life.
